Film Noir
analog photography
A project celebrating film noir influences, featuring Black subjects. Historically, Film Noir was about breaking the rules of filmmaking: using jarring editing techniques and bold experimentation in technique.
Taking place largely from the mid-1904s through the 1960s, it would have been the perfect genre within to feature Black actors. Yet—it didn’t.
This project recreates shots from films, as well as original images. Film Noir is a celebration of Blackness with the stylistic approach of the genre.
I conceptualized this project, creative-directed it, shot it in a studio, on analog film, and developed the film and prints myself.

Tank and the Bangas
digital photography: concert photography
At the Charleston Pour House, with Maggie Koerner and Alfred Banks
I shot these on a Nikon D5300 with 50mm and 35mm lenses. The D5300 has a cropped sensor, and the 50mm is a full censor lens. Using the 50mm produced cropped/zoomed-in images, allowing them to appear as if they were shot on a telephoto lens.
